How to Create Woven Paintings Using Watercolor Paintings and Painted Papers

Description:
Play with new ideas in this "out of the box" workshop in which you learn how to give new life to old and/or unfinished paintings, or build a new narrative in an existing painting by weaving elements of other paintings and papers into them. Make something extraordinary! 
This session begins with an overview of methods used by other artists who use weaving in their work. There will be visuals and hands-on samples to inspire you. In the samples, we will examine various alternative techniques including tight and loose weaves; full and partial weaves; and regular, irregular, and novel weaves. 
After this, there will be a step-by-step demonstration on the basics of planning, cutting, weaving, and securing. You will see two paintings on the same subject matter woven together into a more complex and successful painting that has a modern feel and is more abstract and engaging. Some alternative techniques will also be presented.
Following this, you will have several choices for a project of your own based on the materials you bring along. I will offer a project you can prepare ahead for the sake of cutting it and weaving it, if you wish. Also, I will share thoughts on the best strategies to use based on your artwork that you bring. You will get help in this interactive and hands-on workshop and individual consultations along the way. We’ll share our work at the end. 
You will find the process of weaving paintings mentally stimulating and completely addictive. Limit 8 people and registrations are taken on a first-come basis.
 
Supplies List:
Items to weave, including old or unfinished paintings, sketches, and photographs in the size of 11 x 15 (i.e., quarter sheet). We don't want to work too small or too large to start with. Bring a variety and quantity of these “resources” to have choices to work with during our workshop. You won’t use everything in the breakout session but having choices about what to combine is helpful and provides better results. The colors in the paintings are your palette--you are painting with paper essentially.
Regarding your artwork--watercolors, colored pencils, and/or graphite are best. Not recommended is any works on canvas or artwork on stiff, firm surfaces.
As noted above, if you feel you do not have the right kinds of source materials to weave, you may use a project suggestion which you can request. This will require you to paint two 11 x 15 (quarter sheet) paintings from the same drawing. See above image of chicken as a suggested drawing to paint from; create two paintings and bring them with you. The two paintings do not need to be masterpieces. They should share the same palette; however, they should look different in their execution to get the most interesting results. 
Remember, you will be slicing up the artwork so you are best served to be in the mindset of "this is an experiment" and prepare that the results may not be a masterpiece the first time you do it. Your brain will be tickled, and you'll do more. With each new project you do, the results will only get better and better.
Only bring art you are prepared to sacrifice for the cause!
If you have interesting papers at home from other crafting projects you've done, bring them (e.g., marbled papers, collage papers.) Only bring what you are willing to cut to pieces. 
Additionally, you will need sharp scissors;
Pencil and eraser;
Artist tape (white) or if you need a more budget-friendly option blue painter's tape works;
A ruler; 
A utility knife with a sharp blade or an Xacto knife;
A surface to cut on, like a Masonite board or crafter's board that is knife-friendly. 
 
Pre-Workshop Preparation:
In preparation for this workshop, you may wish to bring two quarter-sheet watercolor paintings to combine. Be sure these paintings share a similar color palette. If you wish to have a project idea to paint ahead (painting same thing twice but painting it differently each time), I will provide a drawing for you of a fun chicken. Cluck cluck!
